Key Point Christian Academy in Brickell is an Accredited School

By Stephanie Guzman, Marketing Specialist

Key Point Christian Academy is a Cognia Accredited school since 2017 (formerly AdvancED). We submitted our application and after a two-year-long and rigorous process, we successfully earned our accreditation. At Key Point, we are a family, quoting our principal, “A Dream Team”. Our accreditation could not have been possible without the support of our Key Point Administrators and Staff. So, what is accreditation and how has it benefited our school?

What is Accreditation?

Key Point Christian Academy’s primary goal is school improvement to build the best educational institution for our students, teachers, and community. Accreditation is the recognition from an accrediting agency that an institution maintains a certain level of educational standards. The process involves a self-assessment of our school, a Cognia-led review, analysis, and a report.

  Phases of the Process:

  1. Preparation and self-assessment, in which you and your team identify and collect the evidence that most meaningfully demonstrates your strengths and challenges.
  2. Cognia-led Engagement Review of your evidence and data, plus live interviews and observations to gather stakeholder input and assess the learning environment.
  3. Analysis and report, to synthesize all the input, find patterns of strength and explore how to apply your institution’s strengths to improve.
  4. Approval by Cognia’s Global Commission, to confirm that the findings in the report demonstrate your institution’s commitment and quality.

Who is Cognia?

Cognia™ is a global nonprofit that has the knowledge to help schools improve. Cognia offers accreditation and certification, assessment, professional learning, and improvement services. Cognia accreditation represents the unified policies and procedures for accreditation and certification from its Accreditation Divisions: North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA CASI), Northwest Accreditation Commission (NWAC), and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS CASI). The result of the merger of AdvancED and Measured Progress, Cognia was formed to bridge the gap between school evaluation and student assessment. They are the largest education improvement organization in the world and an undeniable force for enhancing schools, engaging students, and driving better outcomes for all.

How has Cognia benefited our school?

Cognia Accreditation has been helping schools for more than 125 years. Based on rigorous research-based standards and evidence-based criteria, the process probes the whole institution—from policies to learning conditions and cultural context—to determine how well the parts work together to meet the needs of every learner. Cognia has given our school credibility to build a positive and strong reputation.  The Cognia Accreditation process has helped us reach our goals and continuously enhance our expectations. The hard work of our staff, with the help of the Cognia team, has enhanced Key Point’s standards of excellence. Key Point’s stakeholders have the added prestige of knowing that standards of education are evident and continuously improving. It is an honor and blessing to be accredited by an organization that will help us preserve our Christian mission and vision.
